Apple Crisp with Caramel

Ingredients

  • For Apples
  • 8 medium Gala, Cortland, or other cooking apples
  • 1/2 cup flour - divided
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar - divided
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp caramel syrup
  • For Topping
  • remaining flour and brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 1/3 cup old fashion oats
  • 2 Tbsp butter or margine, melted
  • vanilla frozen yogurt, for garnish

Recipe

1. Spray 9x13-inch baking dish with vegetable cooking spray. Peel, core, and cut the apples into thin slices. In a bowl, mix the apples, 1/4 cup flour, 2 Tbsp brown sugar, and cinnamon.

4. Place in baking dish and drizzle caramel syrup on top.

5. For the topping, in a bowl evenly combine remaining ingredients, toss together and combine by hand to blend evenly. Consistency should be similar to coarse cornmeal.

6. Sprinkle equally over top of apples. Cover and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven, uncover and bake for 10 more minutes or until tender.

7. Crisp is done when the apples are easily pierced with a fork. Let rest for 3 minutes before serving.
